What is 'beauty'? Is it something natural? Something man made? Or maybe both?
Everybody has it's own idea of beauty.
I always thought that natural beauty is rather boring, not because I think it's not appealing but because it's not your merit, it's just genes, DNA.
I must admit I'm a fan of man made, I love art in all it's forms and I think that the act of making art is essential to us humans.
So if beauty is relative, sometimes the way we are born might not coincide with our idea of beautiful. And here's where things get interesting.
You can change the way you look, we have done this from the beginning of civilizations with the help of makeup, tattoos, piercings and other body modifications. They are not new concepts, they are here for many centuries and they will remain because the desire to express one's self will always be present. And there's nothing wrong with that.
I'm a quirky ginger with freckles and crooked teeth but that's not what I want to be, it does not match my personality and my taste. I recreate myself into something that I feel it's more 'me'. I've been dying my hair for many years, I have tattoos, piercings, wigs etc. And I've been doing that for 15 years. It's not about hiding, it's about reveling who you truly are.
Also people who use body modifications don't hate themselves, that's not the case, they just want to decorate and to personalize their body, and I think that's fantastic !
You can always tell more about a person when he has tattoos, interesting clothes, body mods etc. , you immediately get a sense of his personality and what he likes.
I personally love the idea of artificial beauty (If you want to call it that way) because you can be in charge of it, you can make it yourself the way you want to.
Just make sure you are doing it for the right reasons
